DISASTERS CAN TAKE ALL
BUT NOT THE RESILIENT HUMAN SPIRIT
Cipla has always been one of the first to respond in the aftermath of disasters, reaching out with lifesaving medicines and relief materials. We take this forward and come together with on-ground partners to action relief efforts for communities hit by natural disasters across India.
We prioritize individuals with disabilities as they face the greatest challenges in coping with disasters
OVER THE YEARS
We have been supporting communities to overcome the impact of disasters through immediate, mid and long-term relief efforts in partnership with international and national NGOs as well as local community organizations.
Over the years we have stood by communities through relief efforts in floods, cyclones, landslides and droughts. Additionally, we have also been supporting restoration and conservation of natural resources across India.
TAMIL NADU FLOODS
RESPONDING TO A DEVASTATING CRISIS
One of our significant disaster response efforts has been towards the Tamil Nadu Floods of 2015.
In a first-of-its-kind drive at Cipla, the employees came forward to contribute a day’s salary which was matched by Cipla Ltd. The funds raised were deployed over the next 4 years for a range of initiatives.
For two months ending in January 2016, we supported families by providing dry food ration, utensils, blankets, clothes, water storage tanks and filters, solar lanterns, tarpaulin sheets, mosquito nets, medicines, disinfectants, hygiene items and other essential products.
These efforts continued for six months till July 2016. Several health camps were set up across villages to assist children, women and the elderly. Additionally, we provided assistive devices like smart canes, wheelchairs and tricycles, to individuals with disabilities.
We focused on home reconstruction and repair for individuals with disabilities in the worst affected areas of Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Thiruvallur, Cuddalore and Tuticorin. The new homes are disability-friendly with ramps and railings; sanitation equipped and disaster resilient.
I never imagined I will be living in my own house. This house is secure and completely accessible for me. Every house I went, I had difficulty in entering as it had stairs, but in my new house I can enter without any hassle because of the ramps. Thank you for making my life better.
DISASTERS IN 2019-20

We handed over 25,000 ORS packets to the Disaster Response Cell of State Government. We also supported health camps through our Mobile Healthcare Unit that reached out to families with free-of-cost health check-ups.
